Sabre Training! In the traditional training curriculum learing sabre comes before studying sword, although many practitioners today are introduced to sword first and then may never get to do sabre at all! To redress this shocking state of affairs, this intermediate class will bridge the gap between Beginner and Intermediate training, teaching simple cuts, thrusts and solo drills then moving on to teaching the Yang Style solo and 2 Person Sabre Forms. Sabre's brilliant for improving overall fitness and conditioning as well as sharpening the mind (no pun intended...).
Next year Sam Masich will build on this work in two seminars on Sabre; the first will teach another, even older, Sabre Form, the second will delve more deeply into the subtelties of this weapon in the context of Tai Chi theory (they'll be in April and June).
This sabre work will form the foundation of our Pushing Hands training next year, so is an important course in your ambition to attain mastery...
To keep up with the overall standard of this class students will be expected to practice between sessions. Sunday morning training is available to support this; we meet at a local park to train from 10.00-1pm any Sunday that we are not teaching a course (please check the calendar for more information), or that it's not raining too hard.
The entry requirement for this course is the 5 Section solo form. If you cannot do this form on your own to a good standard then you may still be invited to sabre, but will be expected to continue with the earlier class too - discounts are available when booking more than one class per week, please contact us in the office for more information.
